For the past thirteen years our backyard has been a “work-in-progress”, every so often we have dabbled in planting vegetable gardens, some successful, some not so much. We have moved our big river rock boulders several times for different projects and in the past 6 years or so we were blessed to add a play area for our kiddies. We have planted many trees, cut down several, moved rock gardens added fountains, bird bathes and much more.
This year was no exception. This year, however, I have spent a good amount of time tending to our yard and for the first time since my children were born, I have actually enjoyed it. At times it has seemed a futile battle as we are never lacking in weeds, our nice rainy weather has made sure of that. But, it has been nice to spend a morning or afternoon in a shady spot in our yard and work side-by-side with my mom or daughter clearing the weeds out. There are still lots of areas that are in need of weeding and tending but the area that we have worked on look beautiful. My rock gardens look beautiful with the ground cover flourishing and several arid perennials have made a nice come back this year.
My lilacs bloomed for the first time since I planted them, they were so beautiful. I moved my veggie garden once again, it is much smaller but in a way better location. I kept it simple and planted only squash, zuchs, pumpkins, potatos, and green beans. They are all doing well except my poor pumpkins.
The annuals that I planted are so cheerful and colorful. They are right outside our family room window and bring me lots of joy. Last but not least, we cut down a few Cottonwood trees and planted a Maple, our Apple tree that we planted in honor of our beloved doggie Kady, produced many lovely fruits. All-in-all, I am very happy with our “work-in-progress”.
So beautiful! Just love it. You have the BEST back yard – it’s like stepping into a dream yard – a walking path, shade, beautiful flowers, trees, kid play areas, beautiful grass – and it truly has been a family effort with all of you putting work into it – even Hays mowing all summer! You’ve worked hard for many years and have a beautiful HAVEN for your family to enjoy. Blessings!
